The Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates was hit in one of three drone attacks now under investigation by Emirati authorities, according to multiple international reports published Sunday. Officials said the strike caused a fire in an electrical generator outside the plantās inner perimeter, but there were no injuries or radiation leaks reported.
The UAE Ministry of Defense said three drones entered the country from the western border. Two were intercepted, while one reached the vicinity of the nuclear facility. Authorities have not publicly identified the source of the attacks, and no group has claimed responsibility so far.
The incident comes amid escalating regional tensions linked to the ongoing Iran-related conflict in the Gulf. The UAE has previously accused Iran-backed actors of targeting critical infrastructure, including oil facilities and ports, although officials avoided direct accusations in this latest case.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it was closely monitoring the situation. UAE nuclear regulators confirmed that all reactor units at Barakah continue operating normally and that radiation levels remain stable. The plant supplies roughly 25% of the UAEās electricity and is the Arab worldās only operational nuclear power station.
