The United States has announced sanctions against eight individuals and entities, including an Indian national and a Chhattisgarh-based explosives company, over their alleged involvement in networks supporting Sudanās ongoing civil war.
According to the United States Department of the Treasury, the sanctions target procurement and recruitment networks accused of supplying resources to both the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which Washington says have intensified one of the worldās worst humanitarian crises.
Among those sanctioned are Alok Choudhari, chief executive of SBL Energy Limited, and the company itself. US authorities allege that SBL Energy supplied more than 200 shipments of explosives and related materials to Sudan-based Target Multiactivities Company (TMAC), which they say supported the Sudanese Armed Forcesā military operations.
Under the sanctions, any assets of the designated individuals or entities within US jurisdiction are frozen, and US persons are generally prohibited from conducting transactions with them. The measures were imposed under Executive Order 14098, which authorises sanctions against individuals and organisations accused of destabilising Sudan.
Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 2023, with fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces causing widespread displacement, civilian casualties and a severe humanitarian crisis. The United States has repeatedly called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and an end to external military support for both sides.
