The Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the Commanding Officer of the 17 Rashtriya Rifles, a Major, a Naib Subedar and 30–40 Army personnel in connection with an alleged assault on police officers and damage to government property at Atholi Police Station in Kishtwar district.
According to the FIR, the incident occurred after an Army vehicle was reportedly stopped during a traffic-related dispute. Police allege that the Army personnel subsequently entered the police station, assaulted officers on duty, vandalised official vehicles and other government property, and caused injuries to several policemen. Charges include attempt to murder, rioting, criminal trespass, and destruction of public property.
Among those named in the FIR are the commanding officer of the unit, a Major and a Naib Subedar, while the remaining accused include 30–40 unidentified soldiers. The police claim that several personnel sustained injuries during the alleged attack, including senior officers present at the station.
The incident has drawn significant attention due to the rare nature of such allegations involving two security agencies. Investigations are underway, and authorities are expected to examine the circumstances that led to the confrontation.
At the time of reporting, the allegations remain under investigation, and the registration of an FIR does not establish guilt.
