The NR-1 team of the Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a life convict who had been absconding for nearly 24 years after jumping parole in a murder case.

According to police, the accused had been convicted in a murder case registered under the Jahangir Puri police station area in Delhi and was serving a life sentence. He was granted parole in 2002 but failed to return to jail after the parole period ended.

Police said the accused remained on the run for over two decades and continuously changed locations and identities to avoid arrest. During the investigation, officials gathered technical surveillance inputs and secret information indicating that he was secretly residing in Prayagraj.

Acting on the intelligence, the Crime Branch team conducted a raid in Prayagraj and successfully arrested the fugitive. The accused has now been brought back to Delhi for interrogation, while further legal proceedings are underway.

The arrest marks a major breakthrough for Delhi Police in a long-pending case involving one of the city’s most elusive parole absconders.
