Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday announced that the Government of India is working on a major “Smart Border” initiative aimed at strengthening security along the country’s borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Addressing personnel of the Border Security Force, Shah said the Ministry of Home Affairs is developing a uniform and technologically advanced border security grid under a single design framework across the nearly 6,000-kilometre border stretch.

He stated that the project will integrate modern technologies such as drones, radars, advanced cameras, and other surveillance systems to create what he described as an “impenetrable border security grid” within the next year.

According to Shah, the Smart Border project is intended to significantly simplify and strengthen the operational capabilities of BSF personnel by providing extensive technical support in border monitoring and surveillance.

“The Ministry of Home Affairs will soon present to the nation a Smart Border project equipped with drones, radars, modern cameras and other technologies,” Shah said, adding that the initiative would make the borders with Bangladesh and Pakistan more secure and difficult to infiltrate.

The Home Minister also assured BSF personnel that the government remains committed to modernising border infrastructure and improving national security through advanced technology-driven systems.

The proposed Smart Border initiative is expected to enhance real-time monitoring, rapid response capabilities, and coordination along sensitive border regions.
